At least 28 grind whales jumped in the shallow water near the island of New Zealand's Stewart. Local authorities have done everything possible to rescue the survivors of mammals, but strong winds and a storm prevented people to help disoriented animals. To save weaken the whales from suffering, it was decided to lull the sea giants.
Outwardly resembling dolphins, whales grind very friendly. They reach a length of up to six meters and weigh about three tons. However, what makes these giants strand, for scientists remains a mystery.
Stewart Island has a bitter glory of the place where there are mass suicides of whales. In 2003, it killed more than 160 of these marine animals, ITAR-TASS.
