Patom crater (locally it is known as "Fire Eagle Nest") to the north of the Irkutsk region is one of the mysteries of nature. This limestone object in height of 40 meters has diameter of 160 meters and age about 500 years.

There is a lot of versions of an origin of this crater. Some consider that it is "scar" from meteorite falling, others - break of deep gases.

Iceberg, referred to, broke away from the Antarctic ice sheet in February 2010 as a result of the collision iceberg B9-B with the Mertz Glacier. As a result, appeared a giant boulder area of 2.5 thousand square kilometers. It is noteworthy that the area of the B9-B over three thousand square kilometers

After the emergence of a new iceberg, British scientists said that it could have an impact on the climate. The fact that the block, which is currently moving in the direction of Australia, is the region where the formation of a large number (about 25 percent of the world) of cold water. As a result, an iceberg may disrupt ocean circulation.

All the pictures were taken using an instrument MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer ) instrument on board the orbiter Aqua. The device weighing about three tons, was launched into orbit in May 2002, and its purpose is to monitor the earth's surface.
